Andrew (Andreas)
The notice of Andrew in Vespucci's Florentine martyrology under 22 August reads: ‘XI Kalendas septembris Sancti Andreae diaconi et ministri Sancti Donati de Scotia episcopi Fesulani cujus corpus honorifice sepultum est ecclesia S. Martini de Mensola, in territorio Florentino’ (The (feast) on 11th Kalends of September of St Andrew the deacon, minister of St Donatus the Irishman, bishop of Fiesole, whose body was laid to rest in the church of St Martin of Mensola, in the district of Florence). Andrew's biographical details are all derived from much later sources, but the tradition associating him with Donatus is nonetheless of considerable antiquity. He was especially renowned for the austerity of his life and his great charity.
